This year's Jehovah's Witnesses district convention in Prince George will include 800 more than in past years for a total of 3,400 from eight congregations.

The three-day event, open to the public, begins Friday at 9:20 a.m. at CN Centre with a focus on strengthening one's spirituality, said local contact Wayne Hoff. Admission is free and no collections are taken. Sessions begin at 9:20 a.m. each day.

"In a world where powerful and influential voices in academia and media dismiss or speak ill of belief in God, Jehovah's Witnesses are proclaiming the importance of such belief and encouraging a stronger attachment to God," Hoff said.

*On Friday, the morning keynote address will focus on how Jehovah draws close to people while the afternoon session will revolve around how family members can improve communication with one another based on their relationship with God.

*Saturday morning will feature a baptism ceremony and ordination of new ministers.

*On Sunday morning, a fast-moving series of talks provide a fresh look at eight aspects of God's personality as reveled in the Scriptures, and will answer questions such as: Does God exist? Does he communicate with mankind, and if so, by what means?

There will also be a special full-costume drama set in the first century which will focus on God's desire to deliver those close to him when he brings an end to wickedness on the earth.

Across Canada this summer there will be 45 conventions in 22 locations with a similar theme. Across the world there are more than 7.3 million witnesses in more than 105,000 congregations.
