Mounties rushed to the aid of a young man being attacked by masked thugs in his home late at night. It was half past midnight on Saturday when three assailants came through the man's door at a residence in the 3600 block of 4th Avenue.

"When they broke in through the front door, he retreated to the bedroom," said Prince George RCMP media liaison officer Gary Godwin. "When they entered the house, he was able to get away and luckily was able to dial 911. Whether they heard the call go through or just got spooked, that is still not known to the investigators, but they decided to leave before they got to him."

Godwin said he could not give specifics but confirmed the victim, a 24-year-old male, was himself well known to police but that still did not explain a home invasion. It is still unknown to police if the attack was targeted.

"Suffice it to say, they were masked and they had some intention to get the complainant, but we do not know who they are or what they specifically wanted," said Godwin. "The front door was kicked in and there were marks on the bedroom door indicating some object was used to strike it, but they did not get into the bedroom. It appears that no weapons were seen by the complainant."

A police dog was brought to the scene but no track could be successfully followed. Other detection methods are being used now to try to get to the bottom of this incident.
