Hit and run wipes out fence

Police are on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver of a blue or black compact car which flattened a fence in a residential neighbourhood Friday night.

At about 11 p.m. Friday, the driver failed to negotiate a left turn from Forest Place onto Goheen Avenue and plowed through the garden and white wood fence at the home of Wendy and Scott McKay.

"They took off in a hurry," said Wendy McKay. "My neighbours came out right after it happened and they just went blazing down the street really fast.

"The crazy thing is it's only about a foot from my kids' sandbox and swing set, so if it had happened in the daytime that would have been much worse. He would have gone right through where my kids play. The whole fence is caved in."

The damaged section is about 24 feet wide. Damage is estimated at several hundred dollars.

"When I talked to ICBC, someone is either going to come in with significant mysterious damage and white paint on it, or it's a stolen car," said Wendy McKay. "Somebody has to know something. Prince George is not that big."

Police are asking for the help of the public in identifying the driver and through the CrimeStoppers program will offer rewards for tips that lead to a conviction. Anyone with information is asked to call RCMP at 250 561-3300 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or go online at pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
