A suspect has been named in some of the Highway of Tears cases.
According to RCMP and Lincoln County law enforcement in Oregon, the late Bobby Jack Fowler has been identified as the one likely responsible for a handful of the deaths and disappearances in the northern B.C. region prior to his arrest in the United States.
"In 1995, Bobby Jack Fowler was arrested for kidnapping, assault, and attempted rape as the result of an incident at the Tides Inn motel in Newport, in which a woman escaped from Fowler by jumping, unclothed and with a rope tied around her ankle, out of a second story window," said a Lincoln County news releases. "Fowler was convicted in 1996, and sentenced to a total of 195 months (16 years, 3 months) in prison. Fowler died in prison, at age 66, of end stage lung cancer."
