Highway 16 West reopened just east of Bednesti

Highway 16 West was reopened to single lane traffic one kilometre east of Bednesti at 9 a.m. today, about seven hours after a fully-loaded chip truck caught fire forced the stretch to be closed.

Highway 16 West was reopened to single lane traffic one kilometre east of Bednesti at 9 a.m. today, about seven hours after a fully-loaded chip truck caught fire forced the stretch to be closed.

The truck's driver was not injured in the fire, Prince George RCMP Staff Sgt. Tom Bethune said in a press release.

"The truck is outside the fire district area and no fire department responded," Bethune added.
