Partially closed 75 km west of Prince George, Highway 16 could be fully reopened by early next week, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Highway 16 was closed early last Saturday morning when a culvert a Kenneth Creek was unable to handle a flood of water brought on by heavy rain.
Officials had hoped the road would be drivable once the water had subsided but damage was more significant than first thought and the highway was opened to single-lane alternating traffic only.
"A detailed assessment of the site once the water receded showed that there was some significant undermining of the road shoulder," officials said in a statement. "Repairs have been undertaken based on input from ministry engineering staff."
