If you work a typical 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. day and have kids in school, all of you likely don’t have time to make sure they receive their shots when you need them.
Luckily, Northern Health is making an effort to reach out after normal operating hours by hosting a Community Catch-up Clinic for measles immunizations in June for one day only.
Next Thursday (June 13), the authority’s office at 1444 Edmonton Street will be open from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for residents to receive their measles vaccines.
You are to call in advance and book an appointment at 250-565-7381.
So, what is the school-aged immunization catch-up program?
The B.C.-wide initiative helps families protect their children against measles, providing vaccines for children from Kindergarten to Grade 12 who are unimmunized or not fully immunized.
According to Northern Health, at least 95% of the population needs to be immunized to develop herd immunity against measles and while there are no active cases in the region right now, the risk of an outbreak is still there mainly due to international travel.
