Those interested in seeing the Northern Lights festival this year are invited to the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum this weekend to give them a new home.
The museum is looking for volunteers to set up the displays on their site today and Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
The annual event typically takes place on Connaught Hill, but with Tourism Prince George taking a step back from heading the festival, the city cancelled the event.
"The city lacks the capacity to assume the co-ordination role while providing the necessary support for the Canada Winter Games," public works director Bill Gaal wrote in an earlier report to council.
"There's all these decorations and we have eight acres of park, said museum executive director Ranjit Gill. "It was a just a good fit."
Volunteers are encouraged to dress warmly and the museum will provide hot chocolate.
"As you can appreciate, the city crews started in October when they were setting up the event and they had a whole crew - we only have three staff members," Gill said about the call out for help.
The lights will be an "even more spectacular" addition to the museum's annual Celebration of Lights. On Dec. 18, admission to the museum and displays will be free with a donation to the local food bank.
