A group of photographers, photo editors, hair stylists and makeup artists volunteered their time to make about 100 people in need's day on Saturday.

Help-Portrait was founded in 2008 by celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart and Kyle Chowning, and spread through social media to 67 countries resulting in nearly 327,000 profession portraits being given to people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford them.

"It's our sixth year doing it," local organizer Terrill Bodner said. "We handed out 100 invitations... through St. Vincent de Paul. They distributed them to people who had picked up food hampers and such. I've heard heard for some it's going to be a Christmas present for someone."

Each invitation included a hair cut and style, professional makeup and printed portrait delivered the same day.

Fatima Erfolgener was one of the people who came out to have her portrait taken.

"This program is kind of neat -because of the time, the portraits are really nice to have. I'll have it for a memory," Erfolgener said. "I find this community is very helpful and gives support. I'm very thankful for the volunteers."

Hairstylist Dillon Dawson said he was glad to "give back to my community."

Loxx Academy of Hair Design instructors Della McCallum and Stephanie Evoy, along with a group of their students, took part in the event at St. Michael's Anglican Church.

"It's so nice. We love to make people feel pretty," Evoy said. "It's what we do."

McCallum said it was wonderful to watch how the makeover made people feel.

"I had one older lady, she said to me 'I haven't done my makeup in 15 years,'" McCallum said. "Well, she's getting it out now. They're just sparkling."

Locally about 20 volunteers -including six photographers and eight hair and makeup artists -took part.
