A heavy snowfall declaration is possible as snow-clearing crews take to the city's streets this weekend.
Some forecasts are calling for more than 20 centimetres of snow to have fallen by midday Saturday, which would be enough for the city to declare a heavy snowfall declaration, the city said in a statement issued today.
The declaration extends by 24 hours the amount of time crews have to complete their work. An additional 24 hours is added for every eight centimetres of snow the city receives beyond this threshold.
Either way, crews will be clearing routes downtown through the weekend, including overnight tonight and on Saturday. It means on-street parking will be prohibited from midnight to 7 a.m. and illegally parked vehicles are subject to a $50 fine and may be towed.
