The Prince George Citizen will start the new year off in healthy manner by offering a new column that will be closely related to the lifestyle of most northerners.
A Healthier You will be written by Robert Horning and Heidi Mois, a local couple who are both fitness trainers at the Family Y where they design programs to meet participants health goals. Watch for the column to begin the first week of January.
Horning, a kinesiologist, consultant and pharmacist, shared why he was inspired to write the weekly column.
"I've been doing this my whole life, but I see so many people coming into the Y that do not live healthy lifestyles. I just want to help them improve their lives by making simple changes and doing simple things.
"It's a fact that 95 per cent of disease is lifestyle related and could be prevented," Horning said.
The two, who have just become engaged with plans to marry sometime next year, will write primarily about exercise, diet, nutrition, stress reduction and will sometimes touch on spiritual topics like yoga and Tai chi.
"We'll be writing about our own lives," said Mois. "We want to share with others how we live our lives and how our successes can be their successes."
Mois has been involved in many sports and dance from a young age and her many skills include homeopathy, healing touch, Reike and foot reflexology.
Horning, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and kinesiology, has managed a health-food store, instructed pharmacy technician students, and worked as a retail pharmacist and pharmaceutical sales representative.
The two have a life dream to own their own health and wellness centre so that one day their children can be involved, too.
