The head of the Northern Health Authority may be Prince George's best-paid public sector employee, but Catherine Ulrich is still playing catch-up among her peers.
As president and CEO, Ulrich was compensated to the tune of $373,227 for the 2011-12 fiscal year.
On Thursday, the BC Ministry of Finance released the list of public sector executives who make more than $125,000. These amounts include the base salary, benefits, bonuses, vacation payouts, pension and any other compensation.
The disclosure applies to chief executive officers and the next four highest-paid or highest-ranking executives. Public employers are also required to disclose - in less detail - the employees earning $75,000 or more under the Financial Information Act.
Ulrich's pay rose from last year's $361,950, but is still almost $70,000 less than the best paid health chief, Lynda Cranston of Provincial Health Services Authority, who makes $441,356. Dr. Robert Halpenny, head of Interior Health Authority is Ulrich's closest contemporary - he made $399,756.
UNBC president George Iwama made less this year, with $300,533, than the $320,116 reported in 2011. Iwama's pay is middle of the road for the 11 universities listed.
He makes more than the presidents of schools such as Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Capilano University, Thompson Rivers University and Vancouver Island University. Iwama's pay is on par with similar-sized Royal Roads University president Allan Cahoon ($322,679) but he is pulling in at least $100,000 less than the heads of UBC, the University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University.
College of New Caledonia president John Bowman is paid $196,790, which is on par with his pay from the past two years. He is the only one from CNC that makes above the $125,00 reporting ceiling. Bowman's compensation is on par with that of Laurie Rancourt of Northern Lights College at $195,611 and close to College of the Rockies president Nicholas Rubidge - with $200,748 - and North Island College CEO Jan Lindsay - at $199,492.
He makes more than Northwest Community College president Denise Henning ($192,488) and Selkirk College president Angus Graeme ($193,769).
