Prince George families attending the Healthier You Expo Saturday will find a range of activities to please all ages.

The event, which promotes healthy living across cultures, is free to all from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Civic Centre.

Among the special events is a Pink Party at 2:30 p.m. for generations of women and girls of all ages offered in Punjabi, Hindi and English.

"It's designed as a comfortable place to share concerns, ask questions, and learn about prevention and early detection of cervical and breast cancers," said El Taylor with the B.C. Cancer Agency in Prince George.

"This is a fun event and women always like it," said Taylor, who encourages participants to wear something pink.

"We' ll have some pink boas and bows there, also," said Taylor, who has positive things to say about the BCCA screening program.

"BCCA is having a lot of success in promoting screening and saving lives through early detection."

"We find young women ages 20 to 29 are very good at having regular screening while women aged 50 to 69 are somewhat hesitant. We hope to encourage them by dispelling myths about discomfort during the procedure which only takes a few moments."

Another special event is the all-day flu clinic where those attending can receive their seasonal influenza shot which also contains vaccine for a strain of the H1N1 flu. Flu shots are free to those 65 years and older, residents of long-term care facilities, those with chronic disease, children aged six to 23 months, child-care contacts of children up to 23 months, household contacts of someone who is at high risk, pregnant women in the third trimester, those with compromised cardio and respiratory systems, health-care workers and emergency personnel.

Healthier You Expo offers more than 50 exhibitors with information on health-related matters, workshops, demonstrations, speeches by prominent people like Dr. Art Hister, and Olympian and paralympian athletes, Sylvia Kerfoot and Tyler Mosher, and much more.

The event is sponsored by The Prince George Citizen, Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society and Shirley Bond, MLA for Prince George Valemount, who is hosting the event for the fourth consecutive year.
