The College of New Caledonia is teaming up with the College of the Rockies to bring the haul truck instruction to northern B.C.

The southeastern-B.C. school first started offering the program at its Fernie campus in June to train students to work in the the Canadian mining industry.

The four-week program will begin Sept. 9 at CNC's Mackenzie campus and includes classroom, computer-based training and simulator experience. Entry requirements include having completed Grade 12, being 18 years of age or older and holding a valid class 5 driver's licence.

"We work closely with partners in the B.C. mining and the Alberta oil sands industries to ensure training is relevant to employer needs," said Leah Bradish, College of the Rockies' director of continuing education. "Thousands of haul truck and heavy equipment operators will be needed in Western Canada in the next decade."
