Recyclers, rejoice!
Return-It depots in Prince George have the 'Return-It Express' program where customers no longer have to sort any of their bottles or cans and can drop and go. While the program isn't completely new, it's become a more popular method of returning recyclables amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
You also still have the option of returning your bottles and cans on site.
For the Express service, you'll first need to create an account online.
Here's how the program works:
- Bring unsorted containers in a clear plastic bag to an Express Depot
- Use the phone number that you registered with to be able to log in at an Express label stand at your depot of choice (similar to an airport kiosk)
- Print your labels, label your bags and then leave them with the depot
- Staff will sort and count containers and credit your Express account with a deposit refund
You can also request bag labels online, to skip the printing of labels at the depot.
They can take a few business days to be delivered through the mail if you choose this option.
These are the kinds of containers that will be accepted through the Return-It Express program:
- Aluminum cans
- Plastic bottles
- Other plastic jugs
- Metal cans
- Glass bottles
- Bag-In-A-Box and Drink Pouches
- Drink Boxes and 'Gable Top' Cartons
All containers up to and including one litre receive a 10-cent refund while anything over one litre will receive a 20-cent refund.
Once your recyclables are counted, your express account will be credited within 10 business days.
You can then transfer the money directly to your account through e-transfer.
Not all locations in B.C. have the service, but all three Prince George locations currently offer the program according to the companies location finder.
The locations are the Hart Return-It Centre, the Nechako Bottle Depot and P.G. Recycling and Return-It Centre.
