There's good news about a little Prince George girl with a big problem.
It's now more than three months since Hannah Parker of Prince George was rushed to Vancouver with stage four cancer caused by a Wilms tumor on her left kidney that had aggressively spread to her lungs and liver.
Just recently, the five-year-old was finally able to undergo surgery to remove the shrunken tumor and the surgery appears to be successful, her mother Candace said.
"Hannah is doing very well post-operativly. She's had her epifural, catheter and suction tubes removed, and her diet has been upgraded to `as tolerable' and she is tolerating solids.
"All plumbing is systems-go and she is up and mobile with very little pain. She is becoming stronger with each and every day,'' said Candace.
"We are so happy and relieved the surgery went well and that she's now on the mend," said Candace, who wishes to share the good news with everyone who's supported Hannah from a distance.
During this difficult time when Candace had to leave three children home in Prince George to be with Hannah, she said it was "everyone who has reached out to encourage us with love, strength and prayers that helped us get through it," she said of weeks of chemotherapy, nausea, evaluation scans, pokes, prods and those bad days.
At last count, it appears the two continue to look ahead to October when they hope to come home to stay.
Through it all, Hannah has managed "to remain a kid" with visits from her three younger sisters, and close family, day trips to the zoo and aquarium, and lots of ice cream and popsicles.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to help out the family that's undergone significant expenses can do so at TD banks where accounts are 632872293330 at College Heights and 93336328722 at Victoria Street branches.
Hannah loves to get cards and letters, and will enjoy them even more as she regains her health.
