The whiskers are off and the winners are in.
Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall came out on top in the Movember face-off against Kamloops mayor Peter Milobar.
While the moustache may not have been the desired 'do' for either men or their families, thankfully grades were given for fundraising, not grooming.
Hall raised $5,718, edging out the southerly city's $4,266 for the friendly challenge to help support men's health, including prostate and testicular cancer awareness.
"The real winner in this is Movember," said Hall in a statement. "It's great to see everyone rally around such an important cause. I would like to thank Mayor Milobar for issuing this worthwhile challenge and extend my appreciation to everyone who donated in both cities."
On Thursday, shaving his 'stache became a public affair, with Hall sitting in the barber's chair at George Blanis' shop at the Days Inn Hotel. Blanis, known locally as George the Barber, earned the honour for his 50 years in business.
Milobar congratulated Hall and Prince George in a press release statement.
"I'm proud of the money and awareness we generated for men's health and am looking forward to shaving!" he said.
Aside from civic pride, Hall has the added perk of watching Milobar wear a Cougars' jersey at a Blazers' home game. The Kamloops mayor will be sporting Prince George colours for the ceremonial puck drop against Prince George on Feb. 19, 2017.
The grand total - $9,994 - will go to the Movember Foundation, a global charity that raises funds and awareness for men's health, including innovative programs in four key areas: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health, and physical inactivity.
