A gravel crushing operation in Miworth will be able to double the number of trucks it can load under a new temporary industrial use permit issued by Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors on Thursday.
Under the permit, which will last three years, as many as six trucks can be loaded per hour, up from three under the previous permit, which lasted one year and expired in April.
The operators asked for the increase because they run a winter sanding operation and would like to haul intensively for a week to fill a storage facility at another location, according to a staff report.
A May 3 public hearing on the issue drew 10 people to Miworth community hall. They were generally not opposed to the operation but had concerns about the air quality and requested to see monitoring implemented at the site, according to the staff report.
The permit was issued to Acme Janitor Services Ltd. for the 43-hectare (107-acre site) on the south side of Miworth Road, just west of Catherine Drive.
