The piper piped and the the crowd cheered as 32 new practical nurses graduated Friday at College of New Caledonia following a year of intensive study and learning.

Among the four male nurses was Lorn Quick of Prince Rupert who was inspired by his wife, a registered nurse, to enter the field of nursing.

"I've provided a lot of support for my own ailing mother and father-in-law and that made me feel like I was well suited for the work," said Quick.

A mature student, Quick said his message to the world is that "it's never too late to make changes and pursue your hopes and dreams."
