Giscome Elementary School will remain closed Friday after a CN train derailment Thursday forced the closure of Upper Fraser Road.
According to a School District 57 release issued late Thursday afternoon, Giscome staff and students will be re-routed to Blackburn Elementary, with buses picking up students at their regular times.
Both Giscome Elementary and Prince George Secondary students who live beyond the road closure will not be picked up, nor be expected to attend school, the release stated.
Meanwhile, the Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to investigate the derailment.
The team will "gather information and assess the occurrence" according to a statement issued by the agency.
In an email, a spokesperson for CN Rail said approximately 20 railcars went off the tracks.
"There is no danger to public safety as there are no fires, injuries or leaks of product. The cause of the incident under investigation," the email said. "CN apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
The derailment prompted students to be evacuated from Giscome Elementary School on Thursday morning.
School District 57 contacted parents, who were able pick up their children from the school's designated evacuation site at Willow River Church. The remaining children were taken to Blackburn Elementary School for the remainder of the day.

Regional District of Fraser-Fort George spokesperson Renee McCloskey said the regional district hadn't issued any evacuations related to the derailment.
