Giscome Elementary will remain closed on Monday (Mar. 9), SD57 says.

In a release, the school district says Upper Fraser Road remains closed due to the CN Rail train that went off the tracks yesterday (Mar. 5).

A total of 27 cars were involved, located about 40 km east of Prince George.

CN says a small spill of petroleum coke went into an adjacent creek.

However, CN adds this is a non-hazardous by-product of refining processes.

Students that attend Giscome Elementary will be re-routed to Blackburn Elementary for Monday.

Buses will pick up students at their regular times and transport them to Blackburn Elementary.

"Giscome students who live beyond the road closure will not be picked up, nor be expected to attend school," the release states.

"If families have made alternate arrangements for transportation, students will be attending Blackburn Elementary."

"Students who attend Prince George Secondary and live beyond the road closure will not be transported by bus to and from school on March 9. As a result, students will not be expected to attend."
