The Prince George Cougars hope to continue their mastery of the Vancouver Giants tonight (7 p.m.) at CN Centre where the teams meet in the first of a two-game Western Hockey League series.
The Cougars have won five of the six meetings with the Giants this season, including their 5-4 overtime win Friday in Langley.
With a win tonight the Cats (28-23-4-0) can move into sole possession of fourth place in the Western Conference.
Winners of four straight, the Cougars are 8-2-0-0 in their last 10 games. They trail fourth-place Everett and fifth-place Tri-City by one point and have games in hand over both teams.
Having won five of six games this season against Vancouver, the Cougars are 11 points ahead of the seventh-place Giants (21-27-5-2).
Cougars centre Chase Wheatcroft has been a Giant killer. In six games against Vancouver this season he’s picked up six goals and three assists. The 20-year-old Calgarian scored the OT winner Friday in Langley.
Acquired in the off season in a trade with Winnipeg for a fourth-round draft pick, Wheatcroft is having a career season. In 55 games he has 39 goals and 43 assists for 82 points (fourth in WHL scoring).
This is the start of a four-game homestand for Prince George, with the Spokane Chiefs coming to town Friday and Saturday.
