The next local meeting of Enbridge Northern Gateway's community advisory board will be held on Wednesday.
The board (there are similar ones in other regions along the oil pipeline's proposed route) is made up of municipal governments, First Nations, non-governmental organizations, economic development agencies, and other groups and individuals who feel connected to the issue of moving heavy oil via this pipeline proposal. Those at the table are not necessarily in support or against the project but wish to be involved in the discussion.
Wednesday's guest speaker will be Peter Howard, president and CEO of the Canadian Energy Research Institute. The topic of his address will be: The Changing Face of the Oil and Gas Industry In Canada.
"Mr. Howard has over 40 years of experience specializing in engineering and technical applications in the oil and gas industry," said a statement by Enbridge. "Prior to joining CERI, Peter held several positions, including senior associate with J.R. Lacey International, president of Arundel Information Systems, partner with LOGIS Data Systems Ltd., and vice president with Computer Research Associates Ltd."
Enbridge officials called their Community Advisory Board process a key way to share information out to the public and hear the public's information provided to them, through the governments and agencies and individuals who attend.
"Participation in CABs is on a 'without prejudice' basis, allowing organizations and individuals the option to put forward their own opinions," said the organizing group. "Meaningful dialogue is encouraged, opportunities for learning are created, and relationships that are mutually beneficial and respect the interests and integrity of all the parties are developed."
The public is invited to attend the meeting, scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Ramada Hotel. Preregistration is required by Saturday using the online RSVP system found at https://june25cabluncheonpg.eventbrite.ca.
