A Prince George man has been sentenced to 4 1/2 months in jail and three years probation for holding up a gas station.

Kaylen Justice Gurney, 20, was issued the term in Prince George provincial court on Wednesday for a Sept. 2 incident.

Within about four minutes of RCMP arriving on the scene in the 1800-block of 20th Avenue, Gurney was arrested about two blocks away, police said at the time.

On that day Gurney had been scheduled to make a first appearance in court on one count of theft $5,000 or under and two counts of possessing weapon for dangerous purpose from a July 29 incident and a warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to show.

On that matter, he was sentenced Wednesday to one month in jail for theft $5,000 or under and to two weeks in jail for possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose. Gurney was also sentenced to 21 days in jail for breach of a recognizance from the Sept. 2 incident.

Gurney, who has remained in custody since his arrest, was also issued a 10-year firearms prohibition and assessed $500 in victim surcharges.
