A gas line leak forced the evacuation of the Buckhorn Volunteer Fire Department hall on Wednesday morning.
A backhoe had struck the line in front of the building, at 5645 Buckhorn Lake Rd. while installing a new watermain for the fire department, chief Richard Hersey said, and as a result the department's trucks had to be removed from the site.
"Turned out there were two gas lines there instead of one," Hersey said.
Police were also called out to redirect traffic from the area.
The leak occurred at about 10 a.m. but by shortly after 3 p.m. it had been repaired.
Fortis spokesman Michael Allison said a two-inch line was struck. Within about two-and-a-half hours, the leak was under control.
