A downtown block was closed off for about an hour Wednesday after a natural gas line was breached near a construction site.

Firefighters blocked off sections of Fourth, Fifth and Dominion to allow a FortisBC crew to deal with the break in the vicinity of the new Wood Innovation and Design Centre laboratory and research centre.

The area was reopened to traffic by about 10 a.m. while work to restore service to the two customers affected continued into the afternoon.

Cause of the leak remained under investigation, Fortis spokeswoman Tanya Laing Gahr said.
