Dr. Janet Ames will bring her Olympic experience into her new role as chief medical officer of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Ames, who has an orthopedic and sport medicine practice in Prince George, will head up the medical services team for the games. Ames has twice been involved with medical teams at Olympic Games, most recently in 2010 when she was with the host medical staff for curling in Vancouver. She was also part of the Canadian health care team at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.
In addition, Brian Ferrance was named chief therapist and Joanne Archer was named head nurse. The appointments were made in conjunction with Northern Health.
"Assembling these medical planning volunteers at this time is extremely important as their past experience and sports enthusiasm will ensure the 2015 Canada Winter Games athletes are fully supported, allowing them to achieve their best performances as they pursue the podium," 2015 Canada Winter Games CEO Stuart Ballantyne said in a news release.
Ferrance, who served as an athletic therapist at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax and the 2010 Winter Olympics, will assist Ames in recruiting a team of therapists for the Prince George games. Ferrance has also worked on the medical team for four other Canada Games competitions between 1989 and 1995.
Archer, the education and best practices co-ordinator for the Provincial Health Services
Authority, was part of the athletes medical team for the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria.
