Friends of a Prince George man battling serious injuries from a single-vehicle accident near Kamloops will hold a fundraising event this Saturday to raise money for his family's travel expenses.
Dexter Martin, 56, is now under heavy sedation after spending several days in a coma following the July 4 accident, longtime friend Susanna Lee said Thursday.
Driving a pickup truck, Lee went off a straight section of Highway 97 near Barnhartvale Road, about 10 kilometres east of Kamloops while returning home from the Okanagan.
A barbecue is set for Princess Auto, one of Martin's favourite spots, where hamburgers, hotdogs and wrist bracelets will be available for sale. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Martin has been a longtime City of Prince George employee where he works as a small engine mechanic.
About $2,000 has been raised so far, but considerable more is needed, said Lee because Martin remains in hospital in Kamloops and his family are running up a considerable tab in travel expenses, Lee said.
