Happy New Year, Prince George!

On behalf of myself and the PrinceGeorgeMatters (PGM) newsroom, we’d like to join in everyone’s excitement for this brand new year ahead for the city, our community and our loved ones.

This is also the start of a new decade… a chance perhaps to start something new, make new friends, travel and explore or rekindle a sense of wonder within ourselves as people.

This new year, 2020, matches the clearest level of vision a person could have and, unfortunately, everyone on the PGM team wears glasses.

But, in a way, we hope to continue to improve on our vision and help Prince George see things a bit more clearly when it comes to the news that matters most to residents.

PGM has remained committed to sharing stories that mean something to you as the reader.

We’re committed to sharing as many perspectives as possible because, while some may find it hard to believe, EVERYONE has a story.

You matter, we matter, your neighbours' matter, your friends matter, your colleagues matter, your teammates' matter… you get the point.

We endured many stories in 2019 from Alaska Highway double-homicide to a stowaway cat in a shipping container that ended up in the northern capital.

From the mill curtailments to the Prince George Spruce Kings winning their first BCHL championship, we hope we delivered the content you wanted to read.

Even if we didn’t, that’s okay because in this new year and decade, we have a chance to start over and hear new stories.

Maybe that story involves you, maybe it includes your best friend, maybe it will bring a new untouched issue to light, but regardless of subject or perspective, we commit ourselves to find the truth and important information you need to know.

So please Prince George, enjoy yourselves this evening, surround yourself with family and friends and celebrate responsibly as we endure together this new season.

If you have something to share with us, our door and inbox is always open.

If there’s something happening in the community we need to attend, our door and inbox is always open.

If you feel like you have no one else to turn to for help on a particular issue, our door and inbox is always open as well as our ears.

Let 2020 be a year of clarity, perspective, understanding and, above all, respect.

I appreciate your willingness to rely on PGM as your news source and I hope you will continue to trust us with sharing Prince George’s story.

See you soon in 2020’s vision!
