Northern BC and East Kootenay families with children needing medical care in Alberta can receive support for accommodation, said the general manager of Northern B.C. Friends of Children Society.
Kelly Sharp advises that the provincial government is supporting children who must travel to Alberta for medical care
"Northern BC Friends of Children Society has received $25,000 to administer the Alberta accommodation program on behalf of the Provincial Health Services Authority.
"The conditional funding is to provide accommodation assistance for Northern BC and East Kootenay children receiving special medical care in Alberta.
"It's another piece to the puzzle. The extra funds are greatly appreciated, complimenting the general donations Friends of Children need to support the travel, accommodation (if child is not at BC Children's Hospital) and food expenses related to the Northern BC or East Kootenay child's medical appointment." said Sharp, who can be contacted for more information at 250-564-2217.
Friends of Children has now assisted exactly 1,000 Northern BC clients since the Prince George based children's charity was launched in the late 1990s.
