The area's four Rotary Clubs will gather Saturday for the Hoop-A-Thon, a free-throw fundraiser that will support local community projects.
The action gets underway at the Jump Start courts on Massey Drive at 10 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m., and will see players try to sink as many baskets as they can in one minute. Pledges and donations are gathered with all funds staying in each community. The UNBC Timberwolves will also be taking part.
Saturday's local Hoop-A-Thon follows similar challenges in Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Pemberton, Langley and other B.C. communities over the past two months. Since 2007 Rotary Hoop-A-Thons have raised more than $560,000 for scholarships, youth leadership programs, basketball equipment, coaching, school food safety programs and more.
