A former Saik'uz First Nation chief has died.
Stanley Thomas, is being remembered as a "formidable political leader who played a critical role supporting and mentoring his peers in the region and at various negotiating tables," Carrier Sekani Tribal Council said Wednesday.
Thomas, who was 59 years old when he passed away on Sunday,was a member of the Lhtseh yoo (Frog Clan) and the son of Sophie Thomas, the respected Dakelh elder and traditional healer who died in 2010.
"He was deeply imbedded in the values and teachings of his culture and stood up to protect the inherent rights and title of his people," CSTC continued in a statement.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, and five children.
A funeral will be held at the Saik'uz multiplex south of Vanderhoof this Saturday, 2 p.m. start.
