The last of the charges a former mixed martial artist was facing in Prince George was dealt with in provincial court on Tuesday.

Ryan Timothy Chiappe, 38, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for possession for the purpose of trafficking and to five days for possession of a controlled substance as a result of two pullovers in late November 2014.

At the time of the arrests, they found more than 10 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value of more than $4,000, when they stopped a vehicle Chiappe was driving in an alley off Carney Street during the morning of Nov. 21.

Then, on the evening of Nov. 25, the same vehicle was stopped on Ogilvie and Chiappe was once again behind the wheel, police said. This time, they found more than two ounces of methamphetamine and 3.5 grams of cocaine, adding up to a value of $5,000, plus drug trafficking paraphernalia and a large sum of cash.

The matter was supposed to go to trial in August, but Chiappe did not appear because he had been arrested in Kelowna for possession of a controlled substance over the weekend prior to the hearing.

The trial was rescheduled to Tuesday but Chiappe was sentenced instead.

Charges against Martha Marie Paquette, 29, from the Nov. 25 arrest remain before the court.

Once known as Ryan "Ruthless" Chiappe, he carried a 10-8 record as a welterweight mixed martial arts fighter - some of his fights were held in Prince George - but had not had a bout since August 2013 according to websites devoted to the sport.

Born in Prince George but living in the Lower Mainland, he was next in the news when police issued a statement in December 2014 saying he was arrested in relation to the alleged theft of a puppy and possession of two stolen motorbikes.

From that incident, he was sentenced in August 2015 to two years probation for three counts of possession of stolen property, and one count each of assault, uttering threats to cause bodily harm and breach of an undertaking or recognizance.

Charges from the August arrest in Kelowna have since been stayed. Chiappe had remained in custody since his arrest in that city.
