A former mayor of Burns Lake has been charged with numerous counts of sexual assault and related offenses, the community's RCMP detachment said Friday.
Luke Strimbold is facing the charges from alleged 2016 incidents.
Strimbold resigned as the community's mayor in September 2016, partway through his second term. In a written statement at the time, Strimbold said his decision came "with mixed emotions" but "after much consideration and talking with my family I have made a decision to resign as mayor for the Village of Burns Lake effective today."
"The RCMP is seeking the assistance from the public to further the police investigation in finding other victims and witnesses," RCMP said and is asking those who may be able to help to call the Burns Lake RCMP non-emergency number at 250-692-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
