An audit of a B.C. Timber Sales holding in the Burns Lake area has uncovered issues, B.C.'s forest practices watchdog said Wednesday.

In a statement Forest Practices Board chair Kevin Kreise said auditors found the guardrails on two bridges needed repair and some of the timber sale licensees failed to conduct a formal fire hazard assessment following logging, although they did abate any hazards as a matter of practice.

Since the audit, BCTS has replaced one of the bridges and amended its procedures to address both of these issues, Kriese added.

The audit covered the Burns Lake field unit portion of BCTS's Babine business area between Babine Lake south to Ootsa Lake and from the west end of Francois Lake eastward to Francois Lake Provincial Park.

Over the past two years, timber sale licensees harvested about 333,000 cubic metres from the audit area, the FPB said.
