Foodie Fridays, the weekly downtown assembly of food trucks and sidewalk vendors, will be moving to Canada Games Plaza this year.

The outdoor critical mass of deliciousness will make its first appearance this year on June 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will continue each week at the same time until Aug. 31. Due to ongoing construction of the condominium complex next to City Hall, it has been moved from the front lawn around Veterans Plaza.

“Last year, more than 5,000 people attended the event for some pre-weekend outdoor refreshment. This year, we will again be featuring live music through the lunch hour,” said Jen Tkachuk, city events coordinator in a media statement.

“The development next to City Hall precludes us from using that space due to the construction activity and insufficient electrical power for vendors, but we expect to return to that site when circumstances allow it.”

Hungry downtown workers can thank local businesses for coming up with the idea. The weekly event is intended was to complement downtown restaurants and cafés, while showcasing outdoor venues in the downtown. The program was recognized at the BC Economic Development Awards as the best community project last year.
