A New Brunswick man has been sentenced to four months in jail two weeks after police found firearms in the car he was driving following an attempt to evade a routine traffic check that ended up with the vehicle crashed into a snowbank.
Thomas John Price, 23, received the sentence Thursday in Prince George Provincial Court for flight from a peace officer, taking a vehicle without consent of the owner and careless use of a firearm.
Price was also sentenced to 18 months probation and issued a three-year firearms prohibition on the counts.
He had already spent 15 days in custody following the March 15 incident that began shortly before 3 p.m. when Price was stopped at Quince Street and Strathcona Avenue.
Price sped away without stopping but soon ended up in a snowbank on Pearson Avenue, Prince George RCMP said at the time, possibly due to the poor condition of his tires.
While the passenger in the car remained at the scene, Price fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away as several officers were called to the scene.
Inside the vehicle, police found a sawed off .22 calibre rifle and three allegedly stolen B.C. licence plates.
