Do you remember your first date?

Were you really nervous because you didn’t know if they would say ‘yes’ and, if they did, where you could go and what you could do together?

Are you on a tight budget? Is money not an issue? Do you share similar interests?

Well, we’ve put together a list of what we believe are the best first date options for the budding Prince George relationship, exploring various areas of tastes and interests and ranging from the classic to the modern-day experience.

DINNER AND THEATRE

The dinner-and-a-show date will forever remain a classic, especially if you like to display your sophisticated side.

A fine-dining restaurant is a good place to start and Prince George is full of locally-owned establishments meant for that, so you can start your night out with fresh, succulent meals and delicious drinks.

Next, instead of heading to the movies where your eyes are glued to a screen (which hopefully you didn’t do at the dinner table with your smartphone), you can take in a live show at Theatre North West to add on to that high-end style.

The stage is always set for a good time with one-of-a-kind productions that’ll either make you laugh, cry or both, and can get you two talking on the car ride home.

This is a classic date that’s bound to leave a good first impression, especially if the person you’re taking out is into that stuff.

COFFEE AND HIKE

If you’re tight on a budget and both of you can’t live without your morning or afternoon coffee, then this option is perfect for you.

There’s an abundance of local coffee shops in Prince George where the two of you can have a sit-down chat and get to know each other.

Of course, Starbucks and Tim Hortons are always there as well.

Another option to take that coffee to go and take a hike through one of the city’s 107 parks, which includes 103.9 km of trails to walk hand in hand and enjoy the surrounding nature.

A romantic place could be the breath-taking views of Teapot Mountain or the wondrous waterfall at the Ancient Forest east of town; either place is perfect for that first selfie the two of you can have in your future wedding slideshow.

Hopefully, the weather is nice enough for the hike, but one should always carry an umbrella just in case.

COUPLES TATTOOS

Okay, we know this one may be a little bit out there, but when you know, you know.

Tattoos can be symbolic for couples as it could either tell a story, reference an inside joke or represent something significant within the relationship.

Typically, most couples will go for matching tattoos.

With numerous tattoo parlours in Prince George, couples can be assured professional expertise and intricate artistry.

Local shops include I Heart Tattoos (113-1811 Victoria St.), Wandering Panda Tattoo Studio (1043 5 Ave.) and Gold Tooth Grin Studios (136-4488 Highway 16 west).

BEER AND PIZZA

Virtually every corner in downtown Prince George has a brewery with locally-made drinks for everyone’s taste buds.

If you and your date consider yourselves craft connoisseurs, a good first date could be to hop from brewery to brewery to taste test new beverages.

Pair them with a good pizza and you’ve got yourself a fun night out!

Just remember to drink responsibly and never drink and drive! Call a cab!

STRIKE ZONE AND ICE CREAM

For the date that’s into a little friendly competition, you can’t go wrong with an evening at Strike Zone.

Prince George’s premier place for bowling and mini-golf always leaves a smile on people’s faces, especially for first dates.

If your night out is on a Tuesday evening or all-day Saturday, you’ll be in the middle of cosmic bowling, so be sure to wear your best neon shirt and multicoloured shoelaces.

Afterwards, the loser can treat the winner to ice cream from Ice Cream Express, which moved into the Strike Zone this past summer.

Who knows, maybe they’ll share a sundae with you, a classic romantic gesture.
