Three B.C. First Nations groups signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal government on Tuesday to discuss the future of fisheries policies in the province.
The B.C. Assembly of First Nations, First Nations Summit and Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs signed the pact with Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea in Vancouver. The three-year pact calls on all sides to work together on mutually beneficial goals that support "the aspirations of First Nations in B.C., through establishing a joint dialogue process regarding general and specific issues related to fisheries and aquatic resources in B.C."
It's expected the signatories will hold meetings at least twice a year to discuss relevant issues between now and September 2016.
