The night sky will light up again for Canada during the city's official July 1 celebrations.
After losing the donated funding for fireworks in recent years, the two organizing groups - the City of Prince George and the Multicultural Heritage Society - received a $10,000 pledge from a private donor so the 2013 event will once again be a shower of light.
"The fireworks represent the birthday candles on the cake and we are so pleased that the city has worked to secure this donation," said Marlies Greulich, executive director of the Multicultural Heritage Society.
"I'm thrilled that a private donor will be supporting Prince George's 2013 Canada Day celebration. This is a signature event that engages community residents and does so much to build a Prince George that we can all be proud of," said mayor Shari Green.
City staff will be working with the Multicultural Heritage Society over the coming months to plan the fireworks display. It will cap off a multicultural, polytechnic extravaganza in Fort George Park, always dominated by an array of foods from around the world.
