Fire suppression tactics on the Greer Creek wildfire are changing in response to crews' increasing success in containing it.
According to fire officials, the 6,100 hectare (61 square kilometres) fire remains at 70 per cent containment.
"Ground crews today are reinforcing machine-built fireguards, burning to remove fuels between the guard and the existing fire front and mop up on less active areas of the fire," said fire information officer Joyce Poulin on Saturday. "Anticipated increase of containment is expected today with warmer temperatures and lower humidity."
As of Saturday, 245 personnel are managing the fire. The crew includes 205 firefighters, 5 helicopters and 18 heavy equipment units.
"The public is reminded that open burning prohibitions are in force across the Prince George Fire Centre," said Poulin. "All fires larger than a half-metre wide or half-metre high are prohibited. This burning restriction is in place to prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety."
