A man who served time for opening fire on an adversary is back in custody after a loaded firearm was allegedly found in the vehicle he was driving.

Jamie Wade Fatum, 27, remains in custody following a bail hearing after he was arrested last Tuesday when Prince George RCMP spotted a vehicle with stolen licence plates in an Austin Road parking lot.

The gun was found on the floorboard of the driver's seat, RCMP said.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved 11 mostly-firearms-related charges against Fatum, including removing a serial number from a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

A passenger was also arrested but later released without charge.

In April 2017, Fatum was sentenced to a further 2 1/2 years in prison, a year after he opened fire during a confrontation in the parking lot of a local apartment building.

The victim, who Fatum thought had stolen one of his guns and a friend's television, was hit at least twice with shots from a .22-calibre rifle. One of them lodged near the victim's spine and surgeons decided not to risk removing it while another shattered a rib. He also suffered wounds to his left flank, right upper arm and left bicep.

Fatum eventually pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to four years, the mandatory minimum for the offence, less 510 days credit for time served prior to sentencing. He was also issued a 10-year firearms prohibition.
