Firefighters were called out early Monday afternoon to a fire that broke out in an attached garage that had been converted into a suite at a home in the 1300 block of Milburn Avenue.

The fire was quickly knocked down, Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief Drew Larsen said, although an estimated $50,000 damage was caused.

In all, 15 fireighters with five apparatus from three halls responded to the call at 12:18 p.m. They spent a further two-and-a-half hours on the scene extinguishing hot spots and checking for any further trouble.

The home's two occupants got out safely and a neighbour helped in the attempt to put out the fire until firefighters arrived. One of the three was taken to hospital with minor smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but it is not considered suspicious.
