The Fraser-Fort George Regional District is seeking a consultant to draw up an emergency response plan for the Foothills landfill.
The plan must include a full fire safety plan and associated safety procedures, the FFGRD says in a request for proposals on the BC Bid website.
In September, a fire broke out in a heap of garbage at landfill and it and took firefighters 4 1/2 hours to put out. An excavator was brought in to break the pile apart. Prince George Fire Rescue was also forced to deploy water tenders due to a lack of hydrants within reaching distance.
In addition to the landfill, the plan will need to cover the compost and landfill gas facilities at Foothills and the transfer station and construction waste landfill in Mackenzie.
"The plans will be comprehensive in design and compliant with current regulations and safety guidelines," FFGRD says in the RFP.
The deadline for submitting a proposal is Thurs., Feb. 13 and the deadline for completing the plan is Oct. 1, 2020.
