Shooting flames drove back firefighters and fears of volatile chemicals forced police to evacuate at least one city block as a blaze struck a Quebec Street business Friday night.
A bystander said she first saw smoke billowing from Eric's World of Leisure around 9:30 p.m. Other witnesses, chatting as others snapped photos on cellphones, said they saw a plume of smoke in the night sky from as far away as the University Hospital of Northern B.C. Police told onlookers evacuated the block of First Avenue and Quebec Street around 10 p.m. There were concerns over chlorine and bromine stored at the business.
