A 2200-block Redwood Street home was destroyed in a fire Sunday evening.

No one was injured but the house and its contents are a "total loss," Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief John Heaslip said.

A woman and her six children were living in the home.

Canadian Red Cross spokeswoman Cheekwan Ho said relief services are being provided and once an assessment of their needs has been completed, the organization may be asked to provide recovery assistance.

"We're not being asked right now," Ho said.

A dozen firefighters from two halls were called to the site at 6:30 p.m. and extinguished a fire in the home's rear bedroom and worked on bringing the fire under control from the exterior. They remained on the scene for about three hours putting out hot spots.

The loss is estimated at about $140,000 and the cause has not yet been determined.
