A single father and three teenage sons are without a home after an early Monday morning blaze ripped through their 2900 block Nicole Ave. house, causing $150,000 damage.

Family friend Michelle Marrellihas initiated a call for donations to help the four out. Those interested can e-mail [email protected] or call 250-640-1179.

Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief John Heaslip said crews were called to the scene at 6 a.m. Monday where they found heavy fire and smoke coming from both the home's back and front while the three occupants had safely exited.

However, one dog and one cat remained unaccounted for.

The fire was big enough to spread to a neighbouring home but firefighters were able to quickly knock down that blaze and save that structure, Heaslip said in a press release.

As for the first home, he said crews had to fight the blaze from the building's exterior because the conditions were too unstable for firefighters to do an interior attack. One firefighter was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

In all 16 firefighters from three halls and equipped with a ladder truck and two pumper trucks responded to the call. As of 10 a.m. crews remained on scene and the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
