A quick response from firefighters responding to an early-morning blaze at a city motel limited the damage to one unit.

The call went out to Prince George Fire Rescue at 4:20 a.m. Saturday and 19 firefighters from four halls responded to the fire at the 20-unit Northwood Plaza Hotel at 2280 Hart Highway.

Flames were visible when the first fire crew arrived. The occupants were able to leave the building without incident. All guests of the motel are working with the city’s emergency support services staff to find alternate accommodations.

According to PGFR deputy chief Cliff Warner, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
