The campaign to contain the spread of COVID-19 cases is at a "critical juncture," B.C.'s provincial health officer Bonnie Henry said Monday.

Henry said B.C. will be going through its second incubation period over the next two weeks and added it is very hard to know if hospitals will continue to have trickle of new patients or see dramatic increases.

"We are not through the storm yet, we have not yet reached our peak," Henry said.

"We are getting more people every day who are in hospital and in our intensive care units so we need to continue to do all we can across government, across our health system and in our community.

"Every person needs to do their bit and I know and I'm very heartened that most people are really taking this as seriously as we need."

The number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Northern Health stood at 14, an increase of two from Saturday.

For the province as a whole, she said 86 new cases were added over the previous 48 hours, putting the total at 970.

However, Henry also noted that 469 of those patients are now fully recovered including 70 who were in intensive or high acuity care. Five were in Northern Health according to the latest numbers for that region.

"I think that's really a testament to the importance of people being in hospital at the right time, being ventilated at the right time, if they needed it," Henry said.

Of those still affected, Henry said 106 are in hospital with 60 either in intensive or critical care units.

Two more deaths, both in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority area, were recorded, raising the total for B.C. to 19. None were patients in the Northern Health region.
