FFGRD directors approve grant for steam train

A one-time grant of $5,000 was approved by Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors on Thursday to help revive the miniature steam train at Fort George Park.

A one-time grant of $5,000 was approved by Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors on Thursday to help revive the miniature steam train at Fort George Park.

Prince George municipal director Debora Munoz said the money is needed because the train hasn't been in operation since 2007 to fund a startup and train new operators.

The proposal won unanimous support but Electoral Area G (Crooked River-Parsnip) director Terry Burgess said he would vote in favour only if it's a one-time grant.

Boiler problems sidelined the train but has since been repaired. The total budget for 25 days of operations - on weekends and statutory holidays - is $37,081.
